Fungi Academy Web Page

I launched a web page for the Fungi Academy where Basswood is working. I started working on this page a couple of months ago, but I got side tracked with work etc. Today I found several videos about mushrooms that I thought were really awesome. I added them to the bottom of the page. I hope you will take the time to learn more about mushrooms and the many benefits they offer us and our Read More …

Basswood is working at the Fungi Academy this winter. They are holding another fungiculture course starting on February 4th on beautiful Lake Atitlan in Guatemala.. .     I wish I had the time to go down to Guatemala.  Not only to see Basswood, but to also to learn more about the benefits of mushrooms and other fungi.  I have been telling myself that he just heads south to get away from the Minnesota winters  Read More …

How is Basswood?

How is Basswood? That is the question that was weighing heavily on my mind all day yesterday. I woke up early this morning to check for messages and there were none…   Two days ago Basswood called first thing in the morning to talk with me, usually he messages on Facebook. He only calls when it is someone’s birthday or a special holiday. Yesterday was neither, so I knew it must be important. I got Read More …

From Seed to Shining Seed

They wrote an article about Basswood in the local newspaper entitled From Seed to Shining Seed.  It tells how he is out to see the world by hitchhiking or taking buses.  The article tells how Basswood meets people to learn about their way of life.  “’When he works for room and board, he is really there for a free education,” Scot said. “Many people actually pay permaculture farms for the privilege of working on them Read More …

Fungi Course

Basswood and the Fungi Crew made it to the Fungi Academy in Guatemala.  About six hours after Basswood sent me the message that he made it safely he sent a message saying he cut his hand pretty bad and had to get stitches.  He said he has to go to the clinic for daily dressing changes.  I was worried that he would not have enough money to pay for all that.  He wrote back and Read More …

Basswood entering Guatemala

Basswood called and said that the Fungi Bus was entering Guatemala this morning. He said that they should be at the Fungi Academy this evening. There are only seven of them on the bus now. They have given rides to several hitchhikers and fellow travelers along the way. Basswood told about visiting Piramide del Sol at the sacred Mesoamerican ruins of Teotihuacan in Mexico and the park ranger climbed up after them to kick them Read More …

Flowers from Guatemala

I was looking through some photos that Basswood took on his trip to Guatemala last year and found these beautiful flowers. As I post these there is over a foot of snow outside my house.  I am so jealous that Basswood gets to travel down to Guatemala again this year.  I wish that when I was young I had the courage to venture outside my comfort zone and I could have seen more of the Read More …

Garden Seeds Website is One Year Old

It is hard to believe that I have been working on this website for a year now.  Our goal for the first year was to get people talking about and using landrace garden seeds with natural landrace gardening methods.  Basswood went down to Guatemala last winter to meet the local people and to learn their gardening techniques.  He also found varieties of heirloom and landrace seeds that he brought back and we grew out in Read More …

Basswood is on the Fungi Bus

Basswood met up with his friends in California where they have spent the last few weeks getting the Fungi Bus ready for their trip to Guatemala.  They also have spent the time visiting different mycologists, learning all they can about mushrooms so that they can teach others on their way to Guatemala. Mushrooms work tirelessly to break down decaying matter and make it available for other living organisms.  Mushrooms are misunderstood and totally under appreciated.  Read More …
